Prepositions
Prepositions are the words which denote relation of a noun or pronoun with another noun or pronoun. It is used before noun or pronoun in the sentence.
Kinds of Preposition
1. Simple preposition – In, on, at, to, of, for, from, over, off, under, by, with etc.
2. Compound preposition – Beside, within, between, among, without, into, outside, inside, behind, besides, beneath, below, across, About, etc.
3. Phrasal preposition – Due to, on account of, in place of, by means of, because of, in opposition to, with regard to, for the sake of, instead of, on behalf of, with a view to, in the event of, etc.
4. Double Preposition– Out of, outside of, from out, for from etc.
5. Participle Preposition-Not with standing , concerning, considering etc.
Use of simple Prepositions
On (par, uper):- When a noun or pronoun is on the other while touching it.
Ex.1. There is a book on the table.
2. Students are sitting on the benches.
At (pr):- When a noun or pronoun is not exactly on the other but it is nearby.
Ex.1. The receptionist is sitting at the counter.
2. His duty at the tap.
Over (pr, uper):- When a noun is over the other but there is gap both the nouns.
Ex.1.The birds are flying over tree.
2. There is roof over our head.
Upon (pr, uper):- When a noun is upon the other one in the moving condition.
Ex.1.The cat jumped upon the floor.
2. The lion pounced upon the deer.
Over (pr):- In case of reigning.
Ex.1. Ram ruled over Ayodhaya.
In (me):- When a noun is inside a place in motionless position.
Ex.1. He is in his room.
2. There is a book in the bag.
Into (me):- When a noun goes inside any place etc.
Ex.1.The cat is going into the room.
2. The boy jumped into the pond.
In/At (me):- “At” is used for small place and “In” is used for big place.
Ex.1. I live at Longa in Bulandshahr.
2. He lives at Mukharjee Nager in Delhi.
For (me):- For selling and purchasing.
Ex.1. I bought this pen for ten rupees.
2. He sold his old car for 1 lakh rupees.
Within/In (me):- When the work can be done before the given time then “within” is used but when the work is supposed to be done at the end of the given time.
Ex.1.This work is very easy I can do this within two hours.
2. This work is very hard it will be done in two hours.
For(ke lia) –Before noun or gerund.
Example: 1. She bought a toy for her brother.
2. He went to Delhi for seeing The Red Fort.
To +verb (Infinitive)
Example 1. He went to Delhi to see the Red Fort.
2. He gave me a chair to sit in.
At (per): For time.
Example: 1. He will come at 6 O’clock.
2. I will call you at 10 O’ Clock.
On (per) for days and dates
Example: 1. He will come on Monday.
2. The exam of English will be held on Tuesday.
3. Parents meeting will be held on August 10, 2020.
Note: For today, tomorrow and yesterday, no preposition is used.
Example: 1. His brother will come from Delhi tomorrow.
2. We will read English Today.
Of (ka):-
Ex:1. The friend of Kumod is a good boy.
2. Gourav stole the book of Siddharth.
Of (ke bare me or ka):-
Ex.1. Take care of your health.
Of (se):- When a person dies of an illness.
Ex.1. He died of covid-19.
2. Sushma Swraj died of cancer.
From (se):- When a noun departs from other noun.
EX.1. He went to Kanpur from Delhi.
2. He ploughed a leaf from tree.
From (se):- After suffer, from is used.
Ex.1. He is suffering from fever.
2. Now a days he is suffering from the difficult problems.
With (se):- When a work is done with any machine or tool.
Ex.1. He cut his finger with knife.
2. He killed the lion with his gun.
Ex.1. Gaurav was beaten with stick.
By (se) for coming or going by any vehicle.
Example:1. He has come from Delhi by bus.
2. He will go to America by the airplane.
By (Duvara)-
This work has been done by your brother.
He was beaten by the teacher.
Beside (near) Example: He sits beside his friend.
My house is beside the temple.
Besides: (Ke Atirikt)
Example: I bought a book besides a pen.
I ate some apples besides mangoes.
Between (beech main) for two nouns or pronouns
Jatin is sitting between Adarsh and Triyank.
Among (beech main) Example: For more than two nouns or pronouns.
Distribute this sweet among all the children.

Phrasal preposition –
Due to (ke karan )-He did not go to school due to illness.
on account of (ke karan ) On account of poverty,he could not continue his study.
in place of (ke sthan per )
by means of (ke dwara ya ke madhyam se )
because of (ke karan )
in opposition to (ke vipreet )
with regard to (ke sambhand main )
for the sake of (ke liye )
instead of (ke bajay )
on behalf of (ke paksh main ye ki or se )
with a view to ( ke vichar se )
in the event of (kee dasha main ya kee awastha main )
